SONYA NASH, F35-39

atlanta, georgia

Occupation: Strategic Sourcing Manager, Rheem Manufacturing

Educational Background:  BS, Supply Chain Management, University of Tennessee

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?  Knoxville, TN is my home town but currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia.

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? 2008 is my fourth season.

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com ?  The TriSports.com cow bell!

How did you get your start in Triathlons?  Broke my foot training for a marathon and the doc told me no activity - at all.  Well, that wasn't going to fly so I discovered the swimming pool and taught myself to swim in a matter of months.  Bought a bike.  And here I am.

What is your favorite workout? Riding my bike until I can no longer pedal.

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…”  Sleeping, eating,  spending quality time with family and friends and working for Rheem!

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why?  Karen Smyers, hands down.  She is an amazing human being and athlete and is a role model for all women.

If you could have one superhero power what would it be?  To snap my fingers in lieu of the run leg.

Describe your biggest race disaster.  Well, I almost died in the swim once so that would make the top of my disaster list.

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual?  Pray, drink lots of water, listen to Moby, NIN or BNL and a make a minimum of three trips to the port a potty.

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)?  I indulge on a regular basis.  Waiting for race day to enjoy the better things in life would be an eating disorder in the making!!!

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? Strategic Sourcing at Georgia Pacific.  Political nightmare.

What adjective describes you best? Driven.

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? Congratulations!  You rock and your peers are both in awe and scared of you.  They're in awe because you have serious guts to participate in this sport.  They are scared because you're abnormal.  All triathletes are abnormal.  Keep up the great work and never let anyone tell you that you can't do it.
