Describe your athletic background. Age group swimmer. High School Football and Swimming. The pro football career didn't pan out. College Swimming at Missouri State

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? Off and on since 1983.

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com? There are so many to choose from, but I would say Trisports is just a few mouse clicks away for whatever my latest triathletic desire may be.

How did you get your start in Triathlons? In 1983, the first triathlon was staged in Springfield, MO. I was a good swimmer and runner, so I borrowed my roommate’s bike and won it. I have been hooked ever since.

What is your favorite workout? Anything that takes me to a new level. For example, a set of intervals done faster or harder than I have previously been able to do. That workout usually gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…” Kicking back with the family and watching a movie on the big screen.

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? Easy question.... My wife, Dana. If she wasn't available, I would like to train with someone who is just a notch above my ability level so they could push me.

If you could do any triathlon in the World (regardless of monetary restrictions) which one would you do? Ironman Germany.

Describe your biggest race disaster. The race went ok it was just the trip back that was a total disaster..Read more here..> http://robchancesworld.blogspot.com/2008/06/escape-from-alcatrazand-denver-airport.html  . I have avoided flying since.

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? A shameful ritual but unavoidable..The Porto Potty.

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of? A hamburger and fries from a fast food joint. I guess I crave the sodium. Yuk!

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.) Oh yeah, I ran over a disc wheel the day before leaving for a race. Read more here....> http://robchancesworld.blogspot.com/2008/05/triathletes-worst-nightmare.html

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? I was on the clean up crew at Arrowhead stadium in Kansas City after a Superjam concert. What a disgusting mess!

What adjective describes you best? I know that my wife Dana will disagree.. Efficient

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? Set an achievable goal and find a good coach. Follow a program that follows relentless progression but allows adequate adaptation or rest. Reasonable goals and a smart training program can take you a long way!
