Pawel Bondaruk

Poznan, Poland

Occupation: Full Time Student ( Higher School of Banking in Poznan, Poland)

Educational Background: Marana High School, Tucson, Arizona, class of ‘07

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now? I grew up in  western part of Poland. After spending some time in USA I went back and right now I live and train in a great city: Poznan.

Describe your athletic background: I was active as long as I remember. I participated in many team disciplines. Additionally I was running in my elementary school and swimming in a middle school.

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? I did my first tri in 2003. It was a mini race that was organized in my home town.

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com? I love all the tri bikes You offer in your shop. I am going to buy on of those when I go to Hawaii one day.

How did you get your start in Triathlons? I was never good enough to race in single-sport events.  In 2002 I was told by my swimming coach – M. Waniewski, to try myself in a multisport and I got a bug… I did my first mini tri (I placed far away) and wanted to do more. Next year I was about to win this race but I got a flat tire (I guess You cannot make big success too fast in this sport)

What is your favorite workout? I enjoy swimming (open water). Swimming is my weakest part of a tri so I like working on it.

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…” working on my website, going out with my friends or other girls, working on my bikes.

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? I would like to join back with people from Tucson Desert Heat Triathlon Club (now Tucson Triathlon Club) I had some great rides with them.

If you could do any triathlon in the World (regardless of monetary restrictions) which one would you do? IM WC in Hawaii. It has been my dream ever since I am training.

Describe your biggest race disaster. Never had a really big one – I bonked a couple of times but always managed to get to the finish line.

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? I don’t like shaving my face before a race, but I shave my legs the night before.

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)? No such thing. I eat everything I can find.

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? Luckily for me I have never destroyed anything. I try to take good care of my gear.

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? As a student I work part time in many different places. Once I worked in a carpet magazine- dustiest work in the world

What adjective describes you best? triathlonistic ;P – english is such a great language.

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? Unless You are in 1% of all triathletes, You are not going to make a big progress in a short period of time. Try to take everything slow and read books so You don’t have to ask too much questions.
