Patricia Anglano F35-39

santa monica, california

Occupation: I have a very corporate career in Mobile Program Management for a software giant.

Educational Background: USC - Go Trojans! 6 years of Graduate school, 2 Master's completed in Cinema-Television and Linguistics, 2 years in a Ph.D. program. Also loved teaching and researching...no time for triathlons when in school was the only downside!

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now? Family originally from Europe, German and Italian. I moved to the U.S. over 15 years ago, in the Los Angeles area since 1993, and in Santa Monica (really in the best area in Los Angeles with its proximity to the ocean and beaches) since 1997.

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com ? So many favorites. I need to make it a Top 3: Power Tap 2.4 SL Wireless Wheel, Mavic Open Pro-32 Hole, Zipp Wheels, and the Sidi T-2.6 Carbon Triathlon Shoes.

How did you get your start in Triathlons? With a background in running and cycling it seemed to make sense to see how I do in Triathlons. I actually was inspired early in my teenage years when watching the Ironman on TV but haven't found the time or inspiration until I turned 30 and then just needed to find the time.

What is your favorite workout? Brick workouts/shorter distances and long trail runs in the Santa Monica Mountains.

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…” practicing Power Yoga, Pilates, Meditation, outdoor activities, spending time with friends, playing and snuggling with my kitties Amy and Lulu, reading up on how to get better at any of the disciplines and optimizing my training schedule. Voluntering and raising money for charities through races is another passion that inspired me to start, coach and manage coporate triathlon teams.

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? Heather Fuhr. She has obviously coached some amazing athletes like Michellie Jones to great success.

If you could have one superhero power what would it be? Become the fastest swimmer. I am already pretty fast on the bike and especially the run :)

Describe your biggest race disaster. Getting stung by a sting ray during the warm-up before the L.A. Triathlon in 2005. They needed to stitch up my foot...I completed the race regardless and by the time I was in T2 I could actually feel my right leg again and remember having a pretty fast 10k considering what happened

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual?Checking all gear. Always check ALL the gear, even the zipper on your wetsuit!

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)? None. I typically stick to just recovery drinks and then a decent meal when I feel like it.

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? Any job that did not allow me to train regularly is a bad job. Training is important. I do not like if a job schedule interferes with my training and recovery :)  I actually switched a job and turned down career opportunities because the commute was too long and did not let me train at my regular times since I started training seriously for Triathlons and running races up to the Marathon distance.

What adjective describes you best? Ambitious

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? Start with a short distance race. I see more and more people training for an Ironman or 1/2 Ironman as their first race. Learn the skills and technique first and build slowly and you are guaranteed more long-lasting success and less of a chance of burnout or injuries.
