Occupation: Graduate Assistant

Educational Background: Physical Therapist Assistant, Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science, Currently pursing my Masters of Science in Exercise Science

Where did you grow up? Norfolk, Nebraska

Where do you live now? Omaha, Nebraska

Describe your athletic background. I was a member of the swim team when I was young, but became interested in endurance sports later on.  I began road cycling in 2004 and was soon racing from Team Kaos- Nebraska Medical Center. I was the Nebraska state time trial champion in 2005, 2006, and 2008.

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? About 1 year

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com? Zoot compression socks, Continental grand prix and tubular podium tires

How did you get your start in Triathlons? After being involved in a couple, horrible cycling crashes I figured I would give triathlons a try. So far I have had better luck!

What is your favorite workout? Cycling and running blocks. I also enjoy seeing how many times I can lap my boyfriend in the pool, but I don’t even attempt to run with him!

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…” Right now I don’t do much besides work, train, and study. But I work in an exercise physiology lab and you can’t beat that being an athlete.  I really enjoy the research I am involved in. I also spend a lot of quality time with family and boyfriend, who is also a triathlete.

If you could do any triathlon in the World (regardless of monetary restrictions) which one would you do? Ironman Switzerland 70.3

Describe your biggest race disaster. Crashing at end of a cycling race while sprinting towards the finish line. Evidently, a fellow racer struck my back tire. I don’t remember anything! I ended up with a concussion, staples on my scalp, and a broken clavicle. The race was in Arkansas so it made for a long drive back to Nebraska.

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? Bagel with peanut butter

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)?  TCBY Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt with extra Reddi-wip

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.) Almost. Once I forgot to tighten down my bike all the way on the hitch rack. Luckily, it made the drive attached by a couple velcro straps!

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? I have been fairly lucky, but I did have a horrible boss when I was lifeguarding. Luckily, she was fired within a year.

What adjective describes you best? Ambitious

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? Listen to your body, because it knows you best and------"To achieve in sports you first have to have a dream, and then you must act on that dream. The best athletes are those who truly enjoy what they are doing and display a tremendous amount of work ethic. They continue to persevere in spite of setbacks and never lose sight of their ultimate goal." ---Dianne Holum
