Where did you grow up? Where do you live now? Navy brat. I grew up on the Norfolk Navel Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA.  We moved around more once my dad retired, Ireland, PA, WA, CA.  I now live in Tucson, AZ.

Describe your athletic background. I ran track in Jr. High and High School, Skied through college.

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? My first one was a Danskin Women’s Sprint Tri in Seattle, WA  1998-99.   I took up triathlon again in 2001 in Tucson, AZ.

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com? Enlyten Electrolyte strips, grape flavor

How did you get your start in Triathlons? Danskin Women’s Triathlon. It looked like a great challenge.

What is your favorite workout? I like brick workouts.  A time trial for 10 miles, run for 2 miles, repeat.  Great fun!

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…” Hiking, bird watching, traveling.

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? Katherine Bertine and/or Terri Abertazzi.  They both are so helpful and patient with all my questions.

If you could do any triathlon in the World (regardless of monetary restrictions) which one would you do? Alpe d’Huez Triathlon and Wisconsin, again.

Describe your biggest race disaster. Happily, none yet. They have all been fun, challenging, exhausting, exhilarating and can’t wait to sign up for the next one

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? I carry around a peanut butter sandwich that I never seem to eat. It’s a security sandwich.

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)?  Oops! I’m not supposed to be eating ice cream during training season? That explains it.

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.) Luckily, nothing yet.

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? I think they have all been good for the time and place in my life. No regrets.

What adjective describes you best? Stubborn, enthusiastic.

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? Have patience. It’s a lifestyle, you constantly change and grow. Enjoy the ride.
