Leslie Reap W35-39

merrimack, new hampshire

Occupation:  Full time mom, part time nutrition consultant

Educational Background: :  BA English & Education, Bucknell University, MBA Arizona State University

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?  Villanova, PA. Amherst, NH.

Describe your athletic background. I was an All America Lacrosse player at Bucknell University…grew up swimming, field hockey, skiing, snowboarding, tried to do everything BUT run to get in shape for lacrosse each year. Finally gave in and became a “runner” after college. Qualified for Boston this past fall. Triathlons and as well as any swimming, skiing, snowshoeing or other activity with my daughters are my focus now.

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? This will be my 4th season.

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com?  The Trigger Point Rolling kit!!!

How did you get your start in Triathlons? I did a few “Bud Light” series triathlons as a relay team member back in the 1980s. I was the swimmer – oh my!

What is your favorite workout?   2.5 hr +  Computrainer rides at 5am….seriously!

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…” Cooking & eating with friends and family, laughing, reading, researching, consulting, sleeping.

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? Chrissie Wellington.  I met her briefly at Timberman 70.3.  She is so amazingly open, gracious and genuine.  She would make me laugh, make me forget the pain I was enduring and I would learn a ton.

If you could do any triathlon in the World (regardless of monetary restrictions) which one would you do? Quelle Challenge Roth.  I would go two weeks ahead of time and stay two weeks after, at least or maybe a month ahead and a month after

Describe your biggest race disaster. My biggest race disaster was actually a pre-race disaster. I had just gotten my front tube replaced and my race wheels put on my bike and was doing a brief pre-ride. After about a ¼ mile the front tube blew like a gunshot and threw me from my bike.   I injured my shoulder, lost a lot of skin and broke the shifters off my aerobars.  I switched the sprint distance race instead of the ½ IM. Maybe I should do my tires/wheels myself? (Just kidding Chris!)

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? Yes..up @ 4am, eat oatmeal and an egg by 4.30am, shower, stretch, dress and go…find a Dunkin Donuts on the way for a little coffee!

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)?  Potato chips and coke!

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.) Not yet, don’t jinx me…

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? Cashier at Thrift Drug Pharmacy…very stressful

What adjective describes you best? Determined

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition?  Do what you hate.  Or in other words, spend the most time training in your weakest discipline.  More importantly, keep in it all in perspective, enjoy the day and take the time to thank the volunteers, directors, athletes and fans for making each race and this sport so great!
