What is your favorite product at TriSports.com? Anything that makes you go fast. I’m still testing everything out. |
How did you get your start in Triathlons? I started out running just trying to lose enough weight to be able to put on a Speedo and get back in the swimming pool. After I was doing both of those regularly, I decided to add cycling and entered my first sprint in July 2007. |

What is your favorite workout? Elevation training in Santa Fe, NM |

When I’m not training/racing I enjoy . . . spending time with my family and fishing. |

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? Ashley Halsey, a 58 year old age-grouper from Maryland. After recovering from a serious cycling accident just 12 months ago that left him with broken neck and multiple fractures all over his body, Ashley just finished Ironman Arizona. Ashley could teach all of us a lot about perseverance, determination and perspective. |

Describe your biggest race disaster. At last year’s Deuceman, my first half, I went off course, lost all my nutrition, flatted and finally blew up at mile 6 of the run. |

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? I drink a protein shake before every race. My Magic Bullet Blender travels with me everywhere I go! |
What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of?) I generally don’t deny myself much of anything. That is the benefit of all this training. But I do love chocolate chip cookies and ice cream! |

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? Not yet. Or at least nothing I can admit to my wife. |
What is the worst job you ever had? Dishwasher. |
What adjective describes you best? I say “driven.” My wife says “dedicated.” |
Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? Listen to those who have been there and done that. This is a sport that can have a steep learning curve if you go it alone. This sport will teach you more about yourself than you could ever imagine. Be patient! |
