Kristin Moriarty W30-34

rio rancho, new mexico

Occupation: I am going change this a bit because it sounds better….My dream occupation is to be a Professional Triathlete

Educational Background:  BS, Business Administration, University of NM

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now? Grew up in Farmington, NM & I currently live in Rio Rancho, NM.

Describe your athletic background. I grew up as a competitive swimmer. I started swimming year-round when I was in the 2nd grade and continued on through my freshman year of College.

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? Just finished my 3rd season

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com? There are so many products that I don’t have a favorite.  It is just great to be able to go to one spot to find whatever you want.

How did you get your start in Triathlons? I actually raced triathlons in 1997/1998, followed by a break of 6 or ‘so’ years…Then in the Fall of 2005 my husband decided it would be fun for us to do a Sprint Tri together & well the rest is history, I’ve been hooked ever since.

What is your favorite workout? The workout that I love to hate is intervals for both cycling and running.  While doing them I am always questioning “why I am inflicting so much pain on myself”—but the benefits are tremendous.

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? Only one?  These type of questions kill me, because I can never just choose one of anything! I don’t know just one Triathlete that I would want to train with because each athlete is so unique and has something different to offer. But I would never pass up the opportunity to train with Chrissie Wellington!  I would want to know what drives her and how she keeps such a positive attitude. I mean, does she ever get in a bad mood!?!?

If you could do any triathlon in the World (regardless of monetary restrictions) which one would you do? Ironman Hawaii—no questions asked.  To take part in, an event such as the World Championships with the ‘best of the best’ would be absolutely amazing!

Describe your biggest race disaster. My only 2 flats in 2008 happened while racing and I had no flat protection. I guess I’d consider that 2 big race disasters!

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? The night before a race I lay out all my racing gear (goggles, helmet, racing flats, race uniform, back-up racing uniform, etc.)  then after I check & double-check that I have everything I pack it all together in one bag. The actual day of a race I always do a pre-race warm-up.

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)?  WelI, lets say I ‘try’ not to indulge regularly in sweets…but after a race it is a given.  So whatever I can get my hands on that has chocolate—cookies, ice-cream sundaes, M&M’s.

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.) NO, thank goodness, and I hope that I never do because my husband would never let me forget it and he would remind me everyday for the rest of my life!

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? Hmmm….can’t think of one, guess that is a good thing.

What adjective describes you best? HABITUAL!

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition?  You might be tempted at 1st to do a Half-Ironman or even an Ironman---but start at the Sprint distance, once you’ve master that go up from there. Be patient, Triathlons at first are all about ‘trial’ and ‘error’…you can take advice from the best in the sport, but until you are actually out there racing, you won’t know what works best for you!

Race Results:  4/11 Spring Fling Sprint Tri: 2nd OA; 5/10 Jay Benson Sprint Tri: 1st OA; 5/30 Deuces Wild Olympic Tri: 5th OA; 7/19 Mountain Man; Olympic Tri: 2nd OA; 8/1 Socorro Sprint Tri: 1st OA
