Jim Fuller, M55-59

greeley, colorado

Occupation: CPA

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now? I was born and raised in Greeley, Colorado.  I moved away for 10 years and then moved back to Colorado.

Educational Background: I went to college at the University of Colorado and have two degrees - one in Engineering (Applied Mathematics) and one in Business (Accounting and Finance).  I also have a Masters in Business (MBA) from UCLA.”

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? I did my first triathlon  in 1998.

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com? Hey, I like 'em all.  The nice thing is that you have most everything I could want and need.

How did you get your start in Triathlons? I was a runner and wanted a new challenge.  They definitely provide all the challenge you could want.

What is your favorite workout? I really enjoy a long Sunday morning run with a group of tri friends and run-only friends.

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…”  Hanging out with my friends and family (and beating up on my nephew in a board game called "Settlers of Catan").

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? I would like to spend some time with Mike Cevette, a good friend of mine who lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.   We traveled to races together when I was first getting involved in triathlons and we had a great time.  He really helped me a lot when I was just learning the sport.

If you could have one superhero power what would it be? Gee, how about being able to run faster than a speeding bullet.  That would sure help.

Describe your biggest race disaster. I suppose it has happened to everyone, but in one of the first half Ironman distance races I did, I was having a very good day and had a flat tire with only two miles to go in the bike protion.   On the positive side, my legs were a little more rested for the run.

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? No, I can pretty much go with the flow.

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)? I enjoy having a Dairy Queen Heath bar blizzard after a hot, long race.

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.)  Not yet!

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? During summers when I was in college, I worked for a roofing company .  We installed flat roofing using hot tar and gravel.  It was hot, sticky and smelly, and made it a whole lot easier to go back to school at the end of the summer.

What adjective describes you best? determined

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? Always remember the challenge is with yourself; always enjoy the training and the competition as well as those you train and compete with; and always have a kind word for the volunteers at any race you participate in.
