Jeff Keil, M35-39

louisville, colorado

Occupation: Graphic Designer

Educational Background: BFA, Colorado State University

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now? Colorado Native- grew up in Greeley, Colorado. Live in Louisville, CO just outside of Boulder.

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? almost 10 years.

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com? Hard Decision, but would probably be ClifBloks- we order enough of em...

How did you get your start in Triathlons? A friend of mine that I worked with got me into them- I swam in high school and ran a lot, so it seemed like an easy transition. I did a sprint and was hooked.

What is your favorite workout?-Hills. 5 mile warm up, then 4-5x mile long hill at Tempo Pace.

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…” Walking our 3 dogs and spending time with my wife Jenni. Sleeping is pretty fun too.

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? Tim Deboom. Just seeing him train hard year after year after year. He speaks softly and carries a big stick. A lot to learn from that guy.

If you could have one superhero power what would it be? Flying. definately flying.

Describe your biggest race disaster. Vineman Full. I was in 5th place at the end of the first of 2 loops of the bike course and my chain went in between my cassette and my wheel- I spent over an hour trying to yank it out and finally got it. Got back on and rode like a demon and ran into 20th place. Fun times.

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? not being late to a race.

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)? McDonalds or Taco Bell.

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.) I always seem to have trouble with my rear derailleur going into my back wheel- it's happened 2x now in different years on different bikes on rides. Since I'm the mechanic who works on my bikes, I have no one else to blame but myself.

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? Filing old paperwork

What adjective describes you best? intense.

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? get a coach. Learn to train and learn more about the most important thing- you- your engine.
