How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? Approximately 10 years |
What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com? Anything “bike-related!” |
How did you get your start in Triathlons? A friend was an IM competitor and thought I might have fun trying one. Ten years later, I am still having fun. |

What is your favorite workout? I get the most satisfaction out of my tempo/negative split long run. That workout really prepares me for an IM marathon. |

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…” Hanging with my son Tanner (sophomore in high school), hanging with my girlfriend, and hanging with our three dogs, Bart (75 pound mutt), Brownie (25 pound Sheba Innu), and Blanca (5 pound Chihuahua). |

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? Dave Scott. I’m 44 and would love to run a sub 3 hour marathon in Kona. He did a 2:45 at the age of 42. He would have a wealth of knowledge and I would spend the entire week getting all of the information out of him. |

If you could do any triathlon in the World (regardless of monetary restrictions) which one would you do? Always wanted to go to IM Austrialia. |
Describe your biggest race disaster. Kona 2003. I once again had cramping issues in Kona. But this time, they were so severe that I was forced to walk the entire marathon. |
Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? I used to, but age has softened me a bit. I just sort of go with the flow. |
What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)? That’s easy: pizza and ice cream, in that order |
Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.) Yes I have. I tend to over-tighten every nut and bolt possible on my bike. This behavior lead me to crack my new carbon fiber frame at the seat post. Thank God for warranties. |

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? Had to be selling T-shirts on Melrose Ave. in Hollywood. Lasted 2 whole days. |
What adjective describes you best? Focused and Driven. Whoops, that was two words. |
Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? Enjoy the process. It takes time to improve in this sport. And be thankful you have the ability and health to participate in the sport of Triathlon. Some people aren’t as fortunate. But most importantly, just get out there and “have fun.” |
