Chris Chesher, M30-34

tucson,arizona

Occupation: Personal Trainer and lifestyle consultant

Educational Background:  Business finance at NAU

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now? I grew up in Tucson, did a little traveling and came back to this beautiful place

Describe your athletic background. I played soccer, baseball, and football in high school, and played soccer at NAU.

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? The 2009 will be my third full season and I am loving it more and more each year.

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com? My favorite product available at Tri Sports is my Zoot wetsuit because it keeps me from drowning.

How did you get your start in Triathlons? I was introduced to the world of Triathlons when talking to some friends who had been racing for a while who told me how much they had to eat. Liars!

What is your favorite workout? My favorite workout is a solid 50 mile ride on my TT finishing up at a school with a track and running numerous 1000m intervals.

When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy… spending time with my little ones, resting, relaxing, and snoozing

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? If I could train for a week with another triathlete it would be Simon Lessing because he is robust and consistent.

If you could do any triathlon in the World (regardless of monetary restrictions) which one would you do? I would do Kona since it’s the mother of all triathlons

Describe your biggest race disaster. My biggest race disaster actually occurred prior to my race in California before the super frog portion. I didn’t put the pin in on my bike rack and the rack and my bike with my brand new, never-ridden  Zipp 404’sdragged for nearly a quarter mile down the highway It was so traumatizing, I sat and cried on the side of the freeway for about 10 minutes; to top it off I got in trouble with my then-girlfriend for having cried about race wheels but never over our relationship.

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? My pre-race non-negotiable is a warm shower and some positive thoughts.

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)?  After a big race I love a cheeseburger with jalapenos and A Dairy Queen blizzard with oreo cookies and cookie dough toppings.

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.) Well I really don’t wanna talk about it again but it’s the wheel accident I described earlier.

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? Worst job I ever had was working at JC Penney folding clothes.  It’s like doing your laundry all the time.

What adjective describes you best? It would probably be resilient

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition?  Best advice I can say is “enjoy the ride”
