Describe your athletic background. I was a competitive swimmer and runner through high school. As a runner and a burnt out swimmer I wanted a new challenge and found triathlon. I signed up for my first sprint triathlon at 16 and by my sophomore year in college I competed in my first Ironman. 

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? 8 years

How did you get your start in Triathlons? I read an article in a magazine about Ironman World Championships and I was determined to one day compete there. I did a few triathlons in high school but my triathlon obsession didn’t really develop till college when I was part of a triathlon club.  In 2005 I met my initial triathlon goal of competing in the Ironman World Championship where I was placed 10th in my age group and was the youngest female competitor that year.

What is your favorite workout? LSD runs or rides

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…” travelling

If you could do any triathlon in the World (regardless of monetary restrictions) which one would you do? Ironman Lanzarote (Lanzarote Island, Spain)

Describe your biggest race disaster. None so far, knock on wood

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? Eating a bar and a banana as soon as I get up

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)?  A super-size coke

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.) None yet, knock on wood

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? Beach lifeguard/weed removers, as a “beach lifeguard” I spent most of my time pitching weeds out of the lake

What adjective describes you best? Innovative

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition?  Focus first on having fun and always race with a smile
