Brian Stover M 35-39

tucson, arizona

Occupation: Triathlon Coach and Drug Dealer

Educational Background: BS- Exercise Science from East Carolina University, 10+ years of coaching and 16+ years of training and racing.

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now? Philly, Albany GA and High Point NC.  Now, currently in the process of moving back to Tucson!

How long have you been competing in multi-sport races? A long, long time, I predate the first aerobar.

What is your favorite product available at TriSports.com? There is no favorite one product, but it is rather nice to have several products that I use almost daily in training and racing all in one spot.

How did you get your start in Triathlons? Two of my friends in high school started doing them. I didn't think they sounded that hard to do so I bought a bike and joined an AG swim team.

What is your favorite workout? A long run with one or two friends.

“When I’m not training/racing, I enjoy…” my dogs, sleeping, burning the candle at both ends and relaxing to metal music.

If you could train for a week with one other triathlete who would it be and why? Hmmm, it would have to be a former training partner whom I see infrequently now.

If you could have one superhero power what would it be? Tough question, but I think the power to move at the speed of the flash so I can get things done faster.

Describe your biggest race disaster. Crashing in a crit, with one lap to go while having a :45 sec lead on the rest of the field.  Sigh, there is $150 I didn't win.

Do you have a non-negotiable pre-race ritual? It helps to show up.

What culinary indulgence do you allow yourself after a big race (that you don’t normally partake of)? I typically don't restrict the types of foods I eat, just the quantities, so an extra large, small ice cream with some chocolate chip cookies or oreo's in it.

Have you ever accidentally destroyed a very expensive piece of gear? (For example, have you driven into the garage with a bike on the roof, run over race wheels, etc.) Thankfully not yet.

What is the worst job you’ve ever had? I can't remember, but I can remember the worst boss I've ever had.

What adjective describes you best? laid back anal retentive

Finally, do you have any advice for athletes new to multi-sport competition? It's the day after day after day after week after week after month after month after year after year consistent training that makes you fast.  Or to paraphrase it take about 10 years to make someone an overnight success in endurance sports.
